i4beauty was established 2 years ago as an all-encompassing beauty site. As a consumer information resource it has proved a success, despite the lack of support from the beauty industry.
Our sister directory site (www.uk-beauty-directory.co.uk) has once again been successful. Certainly both consumers and search engines like us even if the beauty industry doesn't. With exceptions, the beauty industry as a whole does not seem to see the need to market itself on the Internet. We constantly receive consumer enquiries for specific beauty services, particularly mobile beauty services, which we are unable to help with. By and large, mobile beauticians, like the majority of salon owners, seem perfectly happy with the business they have now and simply don't want any more. Certainly they are not interested in helping the consumer to locate them more easily. And yet those salons and mobile beauticians who do support our services have been enormously successful as a result of our sites. They are certainly not complaining that more beauty businesses don't want to be in the directory. It means more business for them!
Both our sites take for granted that both hair and nails are part of the beauty industry. According to our research, so do consumers. Try telling your next client that her nails and hair have nothing to do with beauty. And yet we are constantly being told by hairdressers and nail technicians that they are nothing to do with beauty. Do they really believe that or are they simply reluctant to move with the times?
In summary, the aim of www.i4beauty.co.uk was to incorporate every facet of the beauty industry into a single site, and the aim of www.uk-beauty-directory.co.uk was to provide the most comprehensive online directory of beauty resources available, both for the benefit of consumers and the industry alike. These aims however can only be achieved if the industry as a whole listens to what consumers and want, and stops burying its head in the sand and pretending that the 21st century has not yet arrived.
i4beauty features extremely well with all the major search engines. As for the directory site, search for beauty salons in just about any town in the country and you'll find www.uk-beauty-directory.co.uk at the top of the pile. We would greatly welcome any co-operation the industry might decide to lend, for our sake, for the sake of consumers, and for the sake of the industry itself.
