According to Jason Shankey, owner of Belfast’s Jason Shankey Male Grooming Centre, male grooming is going to be “a huge growth area for the UK beauty industry in the next 3-5 years”. Jason should know. His state-of-the-art salon finished runner-up in last year’s Health & Beauty Salon magazine’s Male Grooming Salon of the Year Competition!
Like the rest of us, men are finally coming to realise their skin has to last them for life. The number of men’s grooming salons is on the increase, and Jason is in the forefront of this new trend. His salon is Northern Ireland’s only grooming centre exclusively for men, and has been featured on both BBC1 and ITV. Whether you’re after the latest hairstyle, a stress-busting massage, or the closest of close shaves, Jason’s salon it seems is the place for men to go.
Jason was a winner in 1998 of a Shell ‘Livewire’ award, having established Hackers Barber Shop the previous year. In 1999 he opened his male grooming centre next door to his barber shop and hasn’t looked back since. His salon now sells hair and skin-care products around the world, and Jason is shortly about to feature as the barber in the new ‘King of Shaves’ adverts in FHM, Loaded, Men’s Health Magazine and many others. We’ve all grown used to Celebrity Chefs, but it looks like Jason could be the first of a new breed. Celebrity Barbers!
All in all, it seems that men’s grooming is not only on the increase, it’s very much here to
stay. We’ll be featuring more about this growing phenomenon in the coming weeks, but meanwhile
why not take a look at the web site of one of the undoubted market leaders. Jason’s site can be found at www.jasonshankey.co.uk.
And if you want to know more about men’s grooming, keep coming back. He doesn’t know it yet, but we’re hoping to persuade Jason to put together some articles for us!
